Broken Course was totally unputdownable. I loved this story so much and found myself so engrossed reading every free moment that I had until done. I'll be honest and admit that I had no expectations for this story. I was interested in reading it because I took a liking to Leo James in Among The Echoes. But it ended up truly blowing me away. Leo and Sarah are such messed up characters and both have such dark pasts. Leo, who I like a lot is such an honorable and likable guy. He's a former undercover DEA agent and has witnessed things that continues to haunt him. Sarah is a broken soul who is trying to re-build herself and let go of the old Sarah and all the baggage, hurt and self destructive behavior that she's had to endure. They both have had far too many dark moments in their lives and end up finding solace and peace within each other.
This story was great in so many ways. Yes it's emotional and sometimes heavy, but it's also sexy, raw, funny and honest. It's real and portrays real damaged people who love deeply, but are also haunted by the past and lies. It's addicting because as a reader you are pulling for Leo and Sarah who are both the underdogs. They have so much emotional weight to contend with, but the love and passion for each other is felt deeply. Can these two broken souls heal each other? Will they be able to move on from their own demons, the past and lies?
Each book in this series can be read as a stand alone, but I highly recommend reading Among The Echoes prior to jumping into Broken Course. I did not read the first books in this series, but as you can see I still thoroughly enjoyed Broken Course. Aly Martinez has written a fantastic story. The prologue alone is quite powerful and griping. It's guaranteed to suck you right in.
